[attr="class","colsf"]From a child, Jace has always been very independent. He went through a lot and has somehow come out on top of everything. He has a very sharp, defensive wit about him with quite the temperment with a large drop of sarcastic attitude as well. All of this is to aide him in hiding his insecurities. However, this can also give the impression that Jace is overly arrogant, self centered and very over confident. Of course, it is true that Jace is very good in battle but he let's this be one of the biggest things he let's himself be cocky about. He has strided to become one of the best from a young child and has grown to love every minute of battle.
[break][break]
But of course, even though all of his traits lead down the path of arrogance and over confidence, Jace has a strong moral core. He is a 'good soldier' and always willing to make the right decisions and sacrifices. He vows to protect those in which he loves. Jace, like the Lightwoods, shared in the snobbish attitude towards the mundanes and downworlders. He always felt as though Shadowhunters were the best and the others were just his 'ward' to protect, especially the naive mundanes.
[break][break]
For most of his life, Jace new he was a good looking guy. He used this to his benefit a lot of the time. He was quite chivalrous and flirt with every woman he would come across, if they were as good looking as him of course. All of this happened before he met Clary Fairchild. He was quite the ladies man many would say and knew how the 'charm the pants off any woman'. Jace was taught at an early age that "to love is to destroy" and this made him keep his heart in a cold iron box, not letting anyone in except the Lightwoods. He would never form any emotional attachment to anyone for anymore than a little time, if at all. Of course, all this changed once Clary came into his life that fateful night at Pandemonium. Her presence in his life shook his life up comletely. He would eventually fall in love with her.

[attr="class","colsf"]Like all Shadowhunters, Jace is Nephilim, which gives him a variety of enhanced physical and mental abilities. These are not only in his blood but also enhanced and brought forth by the use of a stele and runes or angelic Marks. Things like speed, strength, stamina, night vision and many many more things. Not only are these put on their bodies but they can also draw on objects using these Marks. These marks are very harmful to mundanes. Jace is highly skilled in hand to hand combat and swordsmanship.
[break][break]
He and other shadowhunters have the Sight, which allows them to see through most magical abilities. They train themselves to focus and see through the illusions and 'glamour' that cover the reality of things.
[break][break]
He is also able to wield the weapons that have been forged and given the power of the Angel. These seraph blades and other weapons give them the ability to fight demons. They light up and this is how you know if the user is a shadowhunter. They will normally not work for any other species. They are forged by the Iron Sisters.
[break][break]
Jace and Alec share what is called a Parabatai Bond. They are able to call on more strength in battle and use runes or magic that is only for those that are parabatai. They use this in tracking as it helps enhance it. They can also feel when the other is hurt and among other things.
[break][break]
Unlike most, Jace has pure angel blood. This is due to the experiments that Valentine performed while he was still in the womb. Most Shadowhunters don't have pure angel blood and this gives him even more enhanced abilities. One of the biggest thing that Jace has the no one else has is his ability to activate runes on his and others bodies without the use of his stele. His eyes will shine a golden color with flecks of his own color shining through.
[break][break]
Something he doesn't tell many, if anyone, is that Jace is secretly a pianist, a very highly skilled one at that.

[attr="class","colsg"]history
[attr="class","colsf"]Jace was born to Stephen and Céline Herondale however, until recently Jace did not know this. While he was still in the womb, Valentine Morgenstern gave his mother a mix of the anel Ithuriel's blood and she took it, without knowing what it really was. The angel blood made its way into the unborn Jace's bloodstream, which in turn made him different from other Shadowhunters. Of course, no one knew this except Valentine.
[break][break]
Desperate to get his hands on the new little creation that he created, Valentine had Jace's parents killed. Valentine had Hodge's help to get the child from Céline's lifeless body. It is thought that this is why Jace survived, was that he had that extra angel blood running through his veins. So now that Valentine had both Jace and his real son, he faked his own death and that of his son and took them both. However, he raised them seperately. He hoped for them to grow into very powerful warriors, one with angel blood and the other with demon blood.
[break][break]
When with Jace, Valentine took on the identity of Machael Wayland and he was raised as Jonathan Wayland, whom were father and son who Valentine had killed to take on their identities. They lived in the Wayland Estates's and Jace was raised to believe that was who he was. His childhood was both loving and harsh. He was trained like warrior, strict and with an occasional beating. Of course there was some level of kindness there as well but not often. His life was cold. During this time is when he was also taught how to play the piano and also other languages. He became a very well rounded young man. Even with this very cold and disciplined upbringing, Valentine and Jace still had the moments of a father and son that Jace cherished.
[break][break]
During his time as a child, it was then that he has the memory of when Valentine gave him the falcon, to teach him a lesson. The intent was to make the bird a killing companion. For a while, the task seemed impossible but with enough time, Jace tamed the bird and loved it. He was so excited to show his father that he had tamed the bird that he thought would be untameble. His father, unhappy, snapped the birds neck, telling the child that he was suppose to train it to become obedient, not to love it. One of the things Jace learned from this was what his father instilled into his mind, "to love is to destroy and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed." And that is one of the reasons Jace became the person he was until he met Clary.
[break][break]
Valentine realized when Jace was ten that the child was too soft. He needed to move forward with his plans but needed to figure out what to do with Jace. Again, Valentine staged Michael Waylands death with Jace hiding nearby to witness his father 'killed' right in front of him. This was so that Jace and everyone else could be convinced that his father was dead. Of course, as planned, the Lightwoods adopted Jace and took him in as one of their own. It took a little bit for the children of the Lightwoods and Jace to warm up to each other but when they did, they became close friends. Him and Alec would later become parabatai. Maryse gave Jace his nickname of Jace after he told them his full name was Jonathan Christopher which he saw in Valentines journal. Of course, he had no clue that the name was not referencing him.
[break][break]
The night that Jace bumped into Clary for the first time will always be engrained into his mind. Him and the Lightwoods, Alece and Isabelle, were on a mission that lead them to Pandemonium Club. It started when Clary stopped him from bumping into her and he was shocked that she could even see him. She had the sight? After the brief meeting, Jace caught up with the other two inside and made their way into the back and were about to question the demon and Clary came bursting in after a fight broke out. Jace instinctively jumped into action to protect the girl. But once they killed the demons, the girl was gone. However, the seraph blade lit up when she touched it and Jace was certain she was a shadowhunter.
[break][break]
Wanting to know more, Jace tracked the girl to her house where he found her being attacked by a shapeshifting Ravener demon. After killing it, he noticed that she was potentially poisoned and jumped into action. He took her straight to the Institute. Of course, he had a feeling she was a shadowhunter and so he marked her with the iratze, healing rune, knowing she could bear the strength of it. When she came to, he started explaining what happened and she was utterly confused. Jace didn't understand, how could she not know this? She was a shadowhunter, right?
[break][break]
With Clary's memory blocked, Jace took her to the City of Bones. While in there, they found out much more than they bargined for. Finding out that she was Valentines daughter and that Magnus Bane was the warlock to block her memories. They were taken by a memory demon and while they had it summoned it, Alec broke the seal and it grabbed Jace. However, Clary gave up saving her memories to save Jace. Jace was falling for the redhead.
[break][break]
After a being decieved by none other than Valentine himself, he told both Clary and Jace that they were siblings. With this news, Jace's world came crashing down. He was in love with his own sister. He felt so ashamed with himself and was punshing himself and those all around him, shutting everyone out again. But of course, finding Valentine was priority. However, when he got the chance, Jace was unable to bring himself to kill the man. Valentine used this against him later and threatened the lives of Clary, Alec, and Isabelle if he didn't join him. Of course he accepted, feeling the need to protect everyone.
[break][break]
With the news of him joining forces with Valentine, Jace became a wanted a man. The shadowhunter world saw him as a traitor. However, in reality, he only did it to save his family. Jace tried escaping from his father shortly after joining him but he was punished severely for it. Valentine continued to trick Jace into things but he still refused to believe the man. After some time, Clary seemed to get on board to help him and Dot finally was able to create an exit for them to escape but the two were seperated. Jace was washed up on shore with a deceased werewolf that Valentine had tortured and killed. Jace was seen and became the prime suspect in the murder and was hunted by the werewolfs pack.
[break][break]
To make matters worse, when Jace reached out to Izzy, she told him about Alec and how he put so much strain into finding him that he was unconsious and not waking up. He needed his parabatai there wit him to survive. He made it away from the werewolves and to Alec in time to save him but was arrasted shortly after. He was taken to the City of Bones and interrogated by the Institute's new head who is the one who started the hunt for him. Here they were to use the Soul-Sword to get the truth. It was here that Jace told them that he would be unable to pledge full alliedgence to them as some of Valentines goals he believed in. Aldertree told Jace that he was recommending life in prison for the young shadowhunter. Later, Valentine broke into City of Bones and killed the Silent Brothers to retrieve the Soul-Sword. Instead of going after Valentine, he made the decision to save Aldertree and the two returned to the intitute.
[break][break]
Of course, because of his actions to save Aldertree, Jace was exonerated of his crimes. But everyone in the institute began to look at him differently. They believed in in Valantines claims of him having demon blood. Because of the way that Aldertree was treating him at the institute, as though he was some newbie and giving him no form of respect, he left and sought out Magnus at his apartmetn.
[break][break]
With the news of Clary being his sister, Jace was heartbroken. Of course, he would never tell anyone this. But this caused him to return to his old ways and habits. He began meeting up with old flings. However, whenever he was told that Clary needed his help, he would drop everything to help her. An exampled of this is when he went to help Clary save the trapped angel, Ithuriel. This lead them to Valentines hideout. They went straight up to the rooftop. Jace fought off the guards and Clary freed the Angel with a rune. For saving him, the angel took their hands and showed them a way to destroy the sword. However, not many believed them when they told them they saw the angel.
[break][break]
During the time when Valentine took Simon, Jace shapeshifted into Clary and handed himself over for Simon. When he was delievered to Valentine and saw the state in which Simon was in, he let the vampire drink from him. However, this soon caused his rune to faulter and show his true identity. The two, Jace and Simon, managed to fight their way out. But then Jace saw that Valentine had the true Clary and was being held by him. He was planning on using Clary to activate the Soul-Sword to kill those of the downworld. Thinking he had the demon blood which he was told he had, he jumped to stop it from being activated. However, because of the pure angel blood that ran through his veins he unknowingly activated it himself. He witnessed the downworlders that were there to help killed. Jace was horrified and shocked.
[break][break]
With the truth sword still in his hands as he was about to kill Luke, Jace confronted him and asked him for the truth. Valentine told him that he knew Jace would try and stop them willingly if he thought he had demon blood but in reality has pure angel blood so he too would activate the sword. Jace was horrified. But nothing could have prepared him for the next bit of news. Valentine told him that he was not his son and that Clary was not his sister. Jace managed to get the the man down but was stopped short of killing by because Clary reminded him that they still needed the cup. It wasn't untile later that they realized the sword was gone. Jace was intending on telling Clary they weren't truly siblings but stopped when he saw her happy with Simon. He didn't want to be the one to ruin that for her. However, the truth was soon out when Valentine revealed the truth to Clary when he was interrogated in the Institute.
[break][break]
While being under scrutiny of the Inquisitor, Imogen Herondale, Jace found out that he was able to activate runes without a stele. This was something he kept to himself and didn't want anyone else knowing. This was during the time that Valentine escaped from the Institute and took him hostage. It was then that Jace found out who his real family was. Imogen Herondale was his grandmother and it shocked the both of them. After being rescued, she gave him a family ring and named him the new head of the institute which after some difficulty with managing it, gave the position to Alec. He was much better suited for the position and people respected him much more.
[break][break]
With time running out to find the mortal instruments, Clary made a portal for the two of them to go to Idris. It was in Idris that Jace knew Valentine would. He had a cabin up in the woods that he would take Jace to. But when they portaled in, they were put into Lake Lyn, where she injested some of the water. With the help of Izzy, they got a healing rune on her and then continued to the cabin. They found journals of the observations of both Jonathans. This made them realize that her brother was indeed still alive. Jonathan had been hiding in the institute as the Englishman, Sebastian. This was someone whom they had come to trust. With the help of Izzy, Jace was able to kill Jonathan and threw him into a river
[break][break]
When they found Valentine in Idris, Jace was caught off guard and was stabbed in the chest, killing him. This devastated Clary who inturrupted the wish of the angel Raziel. Clary attacked and killed him. Instead, Clary took the wish and asked for Jace back. True to his word, the angel brought Jace back.
[break][break]
Being brought back, Jace felt the concequences every day. Alec pestered both Jace and Clary about why their Parabatai runes were gone. Jace refused to tell the truth and told Clary to do the same as she would be in a lot of trouble. Becuase of being ressurected, Jace was vulnerable, making him very susceptible to demonic influence. This is how the greater Demon Lilith, Jonathans mother, got him under her control. However, because of his strong love for Clary, Lilith needed to do something abou tit, giving him a potion to make him forget about their love.
[break][break]
Jace became possessed by an owl-faced creature that was obediantly loyal to Lilith. While under her control and possessed, Jace began gathering mundanes to have as sacrifices for Lilith. At first, Jace thought he was becoming paranoid that Jonathan was back and haunting him, making him have dreams of killing Clary. Jace soon felt as though he couldn't be alone with her.
[break][break]
Just before going to the Silent Brothers for help, Lilith gave him the potion for him to fall out of love for Clary. This made him skip out on the treatment and started to act out on Liliths riturals consciously. Jace was being fully controlled and when Clary tried to intervene, he pushed her off the rooftop after a fight. He was then told by Lilith that he needed the flesh of Valentine. He needed access to the Cemetary of the Disgraced. To gain access, he went to Imogen, his grandmother. He processed to kill her and take her thumb.
[break][break]
This is where Alec, Isabelle and Clary trapped him in a Malachi Configuration and portaled them to Magnus's left, however leaving Clary behind. Lilith's control over him was worse than they thought. He was mentally and psychologically removing his siblings from his mind and heart while he would kill Clary repeatedly. Magnus was able to get them into the mind of Jace and when they found him, he wished them to kill him and stop him from doing Lilith's bidding any longer. They instead got him to come out instead and take control of his body. He finally agreed but before they could finalize it, Lilith interrupted them and took him back
[break][break]
Back under Lilith's command, Jace was sent to Alicante where he inflitrated the Gard and took the rib from Valentine and took Clary to Lilith. Later that night, when they were being attacked by Luke, Simon, Alec and Isabelle, he was told to take care of them but steer clear of Simon. Jumping from the building, Jace came face to face with Alec where the two of them began to fight. The Owl tanted Alec and told him that he would kill him slowly so that Jace could watch. Before he could kill Alec, Magnus arrived and his Jace with a massive amount of demonic power and broke the mental cage in which he was being held.
[break][break]
Being free from the demon, Jace rushed to his brother, his parabatai, horrified of what he had done. But Magnus told him to go help. He ran up to the roof where they were holding Clary but he was too late. The lair was destroyed by Lilith's death, caused by her attacking Simon. But now Clary and Jonathan were no where to be seen. Simon appeared, climbing up the side of the building after almost falling off and was told that because of the blast, he killed Clary.
[break][break]
Jace is desperate to find Clary. He must know if she is safe or truly dead. It is all he can think about.
[break][break]
Desperate to get his hands on the new little creation that he created, Valentine had Jace's parents killed. Valentine had Hodge's help to get the child from Céline's lifeless body.
