[attr="class","colsf"]In many ways, Ryder seems almost like two different people. Most of the time he's pretty keep to himself. He likes having his music on him, doing his work, and moving on. He doesn't like working in groups, and group projects are almost right out. Of course, that's work. Play is completely different. When he feels like it, he'll want to be surrounded by people, yet it's still very much a superficial thing. Going to a bar or a club and sitting nursing a drink as he listens to music and watches people. He'll strike up a conversation, likes to listen more than talk, getting to know people. Part of it is that he doesn't really think he's all that interesting. Most of it is that letting people close tends to go badly He's not known a ton of stability in relationships, other than his grandparents. They were always there for him, but he lived with them off and on so even that didn't feel as stable as was 'normal'.
He's a good guy, but not one to seem like it. He sees a kid running for the street he'll stop him. Just not with a comment or reasoning with him. He'll just grab his coat and yank him back out of the way. Then walk off without a word. Sure he'll hold a door on his way in, but not with a smile and nod, he'll probably not even make eye contact. He's not the type that does well with schedules, no sense of time and honestly how boring is scheduling things? Sometimes he's behind sometimes he's ahead. Work is more flexible in hours so it works well for him. Especially since he works alone and doesn't have to deal with the guests much.
As far as relationships go, he's a no pressure kind of guy. Move in, get comfy kind of guy. Which tends to backfire. He likes having someone else in bed with him, and just over all living in the same space. So tends to settle pretty quickly into a close relations. Of course moving in together in the first month or day even (yes he's done both), means not really knowing each other well, and most likely, it doesn't work out. He's not one to get depressed over a relationship, but again, he hasn't had any long term ones anyway. He just likes having a few close friends and plenty of acquaintances.

[attr="class","colsf"]As a warlock he is adept at magic. While he enjoys it, he has never made it a point to become as powerful as he could be. His music is his life and he finds talent incredibly attractive so will often use his magic with music or for it. He is a hedonist in many aspects and so has collected through the years things that he finds soothing or enjoys the feel of. Yes, some of it is magical.
[attr="class","colsg"]history
[attr="class","colsf"]Ryder was born to no fan fare at all. His mother was a single mom, she never put a father down on the birth certificate and while there was plenty of rumors, there was no definite answer on who the father could be. His mother was only 17 when he was born, so he was raised mostly by his grandparents while his mother finished her final year in high school and moved onto college. He saw her quite often and always knew that it was his mother. He didn't start asking about his father until elementary school, and by then the idea of not having a dad was fine. He had his grandparents.
While he was a gregarious child, once he hit school, that changed. He started having such problems learning and got teased for explaining that he saw colors where he shouldn't and could see music, he became withdrawn and even lashed out a few times getting into fights. His mother was upset, the worst thing you could do was embarrass her. That was a priority for her, not helping her son with whatever problem he had. After all, she was sure he was just making things up for attention. His grandfather actually took him in to a doctor and after a second opinion he was finally tested and diagnosed with Synesthesia. Knowing that made all the difference. He realized not everyone would see what he did, or hear what he did. So he studied a bit differently and his grades got better.
A reputation in a small town is hard to change. Especially when you are going to school with the same people all the time. So he remained pretty withdrawn and got a 'bad boy' rep pretty fast in High School. He didn't mind, because there were always some girls that wanted to just make out with a bad boy. Like it was something they had on a checklist somewhere. It was around sophomore year that he realized a certain football player was flirting as well. Figuring a big, 'what the hell' they made out under the bleachers just before gym class. For the football player it was a big secret and one he didn't want getting out. For Ryder, he just found he enjoyed the differences in making out with guys and girls. For him it was a lot like being able to enjoy music with his ears and his eyes.
Around the beginning of his senior year his mother started acting differently. She started getting into sports, which she never was before, she even started drinking more. All because this guy she was dating was into all of that. Ryder found himself disgusted that his mother didn't seem to have any opinions of her own. She had finished college and seemed to think that education was all you needed to be superior. In his mind, she was intelligent, but not too smart. She would double back on her own opinions so that they became the same as this guy she was dating. When he proposed, she said yes and was ready to leave Heritage to go to Boston, his home town. Ryder did not want to go with them and when his grandparents volunteered to let him stay with them for his senior year, his mother was only too happy to give up her past in benefit of this new future and left. He didn't even attend the wedding.
Upon graduation he attempted college, going locally and living in his grandparents' basement. He was tired of the work though. Studying things he really didn't feel were at all necessary just because they wanted a 'well rounded' student. The only thing that really came out of his lack luster semester at school was finding out how much he loved music. That was when he realized he wasn't just different, but cursed. At least that was how he felt. See, the music moved something in him, and when it did, he could make things happen. Afraid of what it meant he went to the only people he could trust, his grandparents. His grandmother burst out crying, and his father explained that his 'birthmark' was more than just that. His father, still unknown to him, wasn't even human.
After that, he couldnt' stand the way his grandparents looked at him, and he left. He traveled a bit, only coming back when their health was failing. He thought for sure his curse, his ability to make things happen could very well mean he could save his grandfather. When he tried, it backfired and he couldn't even stay for the funeral. For the next few decades he wandered, finally finding others like himself and learning of what he was. A warlock. He never did find out which demon was his father, but it didn't matter. He made peace with it all and if anything, learned to enjoy his life.
