[attr="class","colsg"]personality
[attr="class","colsf"]Gideon grew up as a child who was simply a back up plan to his parents. Not that they didn't love him, in their own way, but they rarely spent time with him. It was his elder sisters that took care of him and taught him. He learned at an early age to be seen and not heard. He learned to control his reactions and be patient. He learned, most importantly, to be calculating. It was never about getting what you wanted in the moment, it was about the long game. He was, of course, amazing at chess for this reason alone.
[break][break]
Contrary to popular belief, he is a very passionate man, he feels very deeply. He simply keeps it to himself for the most part. Some of that is trust. He has learned to rely on himself alone. He can work well with others, but he knows trust only goes so far. Work, his life even in the field, but not his heart or his wants or needs. Part of that is also knowing that no one is respeonsivle for his life but himself. It is up to him to either show the world that he is a Monteverde and capable of anything, or a throwback that will never amount to anything. His plan, was always to be more than anyone ever expected of him.
[break][break]
Seen as stoic by many, it doesn't take long for peopel to realize that his laconic attitude is less him being unsure and more him listening. He is a people watcher, a listener. He learns every angle, listens to every thought and is quietly analyzing not only the situation but the people involved. This means when he does speak, it is measured and important. He is able to command a room with a look and with his stance alone, often finding people look to him for a quick nod of approval before doing anything.
[break][break]
His seemingly emotionless attitude changed when he met Eleanor. She never seemed to dismiss him, or feel the need to defer to him in any way. Not that she was rude or demanding but sure enough of herself, in herself, that she held her own with any that she met. She even made him smile a few times. Somehow, they balanced each other well and their match was easily approved by both families due to their respective positions. It was at the death of her parents that both changed. Taking from each other what they needed and becoming that much more sure of their abilities to lead. If only to protect those they could.
[break][break]
Suddenly the protection and work of Shadowhunters was that much more important. It finally felt like the calling he had always been told it was. At the birth of their own children, he felt both contented and apprehensive. He came from a larger family, one where he himself had been simply another child needing training. His parents were not involved and he refused to be this way. Taking care of his family would be just as important as his position within the Clave.

[attr="class","colsf"]Born a Shadowhunter, he has the blood of the angel running through him. This gives him enhanced strength, stamina, speed and agility. He can also use runic magic, applying them to himself or to other shadowhunters. This can do a variety of things, such as increase speed, healing, heat vision, magical vision and other things.
[break][break]
He is also capable of using magical weaponary, and while trained in several forms of combat, his weapon of choice are the chakram. His secondary weapon would be a staff. He also has a stele that was gifted him by his eldest sister before she joined the Iron Sisters.
[break][break]
He has an excellent mind, always analyzing and thinking. It may not seem it, but he thinks out of the box and is open to new ideas and challenges as it's how you grow and how you out think others.

[attr="class","colsg"]history
[attr="class","colsf"]
Gideon was born as the youngest, and finaly of five children of the Senhor and Senhora Monteverde, who ran the Institute in Lisbon. While he was doted on quite a bit as a baby, it was by his elder siblings. His parents were too busy to spend time with an infant that took up too much time and energy. It worked out for him, as they taught him from the moment he could stand. Which is probably why, when his siblings all moved on to other Institutes, the Iron Sisters, and Idris, he was kept behind. Perhaps the last child, the hardest to let go, but his training took place mostly in Lisbon.
[break][break]
His eldest brother came back to Lisbon when he was 10, obviously the next in line to take over the Institute. His eldest sister was already on her way to becoming an Iron Sister by that time and that left him and two older sisters. Growing up around women might mean a softer upbringing in the mundane world, but not in the Shadowhunters world. They weren't easy on him, in many ways they were tougher. He wasn't just taught to fight, but to think. Learn about your enemy. Learn about their worlds as well. So you knew how they thought, what they did.
[break][break]
He didn't think he would become a leader, not when he was just one of many and the youngest. No, he'd be a field agent, maybe one day he could work up in an Institute of his own, but he'd never run one. He'd never make the big decisions, he knew that. Over time, he took on training from others, his sisters moving on as well. Though his mother was reluctant, at some point he needed to move on as well. He was sent to Idris for a bit, when at 17. He was already too old to find a parabatai, not that it was something that happened often.
[break][break]
He had been trained by family and by those working for his family. Here is where he shone. All his training, not just in fighting but in diplomacy and knowledge of their own people and of downworlders, helped him immensely. He was steadfast, he was obedient, and he was capable of volunteering his own opinions and ideas without stepping out of line. A very useful skill when most superiors don't like to be challenged. He even started training others himself. So when he was offered the chance to lead a team of field agents at the Institute in Paris he of course accepted.
[break][break]
Arriving in Paris, he had some trepidation, but it was quickly put aside as he was shown around and put in charge of the field agents. While most of the shadowhunters had no issue accepting him, there was one that did not exactly fall in line. She was the daughter of the Clave members running the Institute and at first he chalked it up to simply her assuming she would be next in line. Still, he was one to watch people, to learn and analyze and what he learned was there was no anger in her towards him. Just a sense of self assuredness that most lacked, or simply faked.
[break][break]
He grew to look forward to her questions and comments. Never one to take him down or try to question him or his methods, it often opened his eyes to other situations and possibilities. It wasn't long before they were working togethre, sparring together, and people noticed. Most importantly her parents. During what he thought was a typical meeting, he was asked about his intentions. Not one to rush into anything, even a voiced opinion, he let them continue talking as he thought about a question he hadn't asked himself. There was talk of how their families would be aligned and even though he was the youngest of his family, it would still be a strong alliance. The meeting ended with him explaining that he would be happy to discuss it further at another time.
[break][break]
He knew Elenaor enough, by now, to know that if an arrangement had been made between the parents and himself first, she'd never forgive him. So it was during a spar that he broached the subject. It was, for him, typical. A simple discussion while sparring of what if they got married. He laid out his argument simply and succinctly. They worked well together, it was good for the Institute and for their families. He finished with a simple, and I love you.
Their wedding was held rather quickly, as neither wanted a huge fuss. It was on their wedding night that everything changed. A problem came up, a seemingly feral wolf in the city and while they should have been called to take care of it, Eleanor's parents wanted their daughter to have a night off. At least one. So they took the call, thinking that getting back into the field would be good for them. Instead, it cost them their lives. Gideon and Eleanor found out the next day. The disappointment in himself and anger that his own parents wouldn't have gone so far for him but they had flooded him. As it did his wife, and it was only by taking a moment to gather all the information before heading out were they able to find the wolf and deal with it. He wanted it dead, but he followed orders, as always, and instead it was captured and sent to Alicante for trial.
[break][break]
Soon after he and Eleanor took over the Paris Institute and it was less than a year when they were expecting their first child. Suddenly, security was important. Personal security was rare in their world, as there were other things, more important things, to contend with. His family, however, would be the most important thing to him. Luckily, he had a wife to temper him. By the time they were expecting their second child he was made an offer. A seat on the Council. For now, they could continue at the Paris Institute, but a replacement would be found later.
[break][break]
While they ended up in Idris by the birth of their second child, they still spent much time in Paris, as it was Eleanor's home. There has been so much going on lately that the Council has been busy. Recently, Valentine's body was resurrected, Herondale was killed, Fairchild escaped and the angel's wish used. Lilith was back and with word of an explosion in New York, it has become imperative that someone go deal with all of this and for now take over the Institute and investigate. Worried about the danger of things for his family, Gideon has agreed to go, but that the children stay in Idris. The eldest had started training and he didn't wnat it interrupted. He of course deferred to his wife on the youngest, and invited her to come as well. He found ordering her one way or another was futile anyway.
